Milk Suppliers Portal for Barber’s Cheesemakers

Barbers are based in Somerset and are a well-known producer of Cheddar and other hard cheeses. Founded in 1833 they are the world’s oldest cheddar cheesemaker and their products can be found in shops and supermarkets throughout the UK and Europe.

The client

Barber's Cheesemarkers are the UK’s largest cheddar producers, they source over 200 million litres of milk from 150 dairy farms across Somerset and Dorset.

The problem

Barbers wanted to modernise supplier communication with a trusted portal for contracts, traceability, and updates, improving engagement and enabling accurate, real time data for quality assurance and sales.

The solution

We defined requirements with Barbers, created wireframes, and developed a clear, intuitive portal for both suppliers and administrators, accommodating all levels of digital confidence and ensuring strong usability.

The implementation

We migrated supplier data, added forecasts and historic content, trained the team, and refined the system before launching in summer 2018, with automated reminders helping farmers keep their information up to date.

The result

Barbers transformed supplier communication with a widely adopted portal, improving data sharing, forecasts, and transparency whilst boosting confidence, milk quality, and supporting growth.

Employee Portal

Following the success of the Supplier Portal, barbers commissioned us to create an HR portal, a complete solution for their HR requirements. This very sophisticated system was launched in 2022.

"The development of the Suppliers Portal has transformed the way we work with our Milk Suppliers. The key to success has been the considered planning and skilful creation of the Portal, making it simple to use, yet complex in functionality"
